"Crawdad Slip" (Documentary – 44 minutes) Sid Luck is a fifth generation potter in Seagrove, North Carolina. This forty-five minute documentary explores his life and work, and the family heritage he hopes to pass on to his two sons, Jason and Matthew. Through conversations with Sid over old photographs and video of him practicing his craft, we hear about the work of early potters and about how large scale manufacturing and plastics almost ended the handmade trade in Seagrove. This film shows how potters adapted and survived these changes, turning Seagrove into the vibrant pottery center it is today. Filmmaker Jim Sharkey is an independent producer of documentaries on North Carolina potters. His programs to date include "Crawdad Slip," "Luck’s Legacy," and "Melvin." He is currently working on a documentary about the work of Lenoir potter Roger Hicks. Jim lives in Asheboro with his wife and two children. |
