"The Mermaid"

(Narrative – 14 minutes)

Filmed on location in England, "The Mermaid" tells the enchanting story of an old seaman who falls in love with a mysterious mermaid. Believing he met this woman many years earlier, the seaman is lured through the city, searching for his long-lost lover. In the operatic-style finale, the mermaid transforms into her true form and sings to the old seaman, lulling him to his final destination.

Filmmaker

Julie Freeman, a native of Winston-Salem, began making films during her undergraduate studies at Duke University. Upon graduation from Duke, she took graduate courses at the University of Bristol where she served as the producer of the 16mm film, "The Mermaid". She is currently involved in continuing education classes at the North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem.
