"New Life: The Cole Family Potters"

Picture from New Life: The Cole Family Potters - 1st storeThis captivating documentary tells the story of the life and work of the Cole sisters, Neolia and Celia, who have been making pottery for over sixty years in Sanford, North Carolina. The sisters recount the early years when as children they learned how to turn pottery from their father, A.R. and later, how they passed on the craft to Neolia’s grandson, Kenneth George.

Filmmaker

Jim Sharkey has been making documentaries about North Carolina potters since 1998. He has five documentaries to date: Crawdad Slip.(1999) Lucks Legacy (1999) New Life (2000)Melvin (2000) and Clay Pond (2001).He is currently working on a documentary on the McCanless family potters of Seagrove, North Carolina which he hopes to have completed by October of 2001.
