Martha Garrett 1. How did you come up with the idea for the film? The idea for the Secret Lives of Art Supplies came from the fact that no matter how often the art room is straightened it always turns up messy again. 2. How long did the production process take? The production process took from Nov 2000 when we began designing characters until May 2001 for the edit. 3. What challenges did you experience in the creation of the film? The biggest challenge was in working with 50 eighth grade students to create a single film with a cohesive story! 4. What is your favorite memory from creating the film? My favorite memory was when we showed the finished film to parents and friends at an assembly. 5. When someone has finished watching the film, what do you hope they take away from the experience? I hope a person viewing this film will become interested in the possibilities offered from working with very young filmmakers. 6. What type of reaction has your film received from viewers? The main reaction is lots of laughs and questions like "how long did that take to make?" 7. What advice would you give to aspiring young filmmakers? My advice to young filmmakers is 1)listen to the old filmmakers, 2) take your time, 3)rewrite your script, and 4)Have someone else edit your movie. 8. Please tell us about the next film you plan to work on? My next film will be determined by the creative input of this year's eighth grade art students. Who knows what they'll come up with! 9. What are your thoughts on the film industry in NC? I think the film industry in NC is thriving even if it is well kept secret.
