Conversation with Kafka
(NARRATIVE, 22 minutes)

Conversation with KafkaShot on location in Prague, Czech Republic,Conversation with Kafka is a narrative adaptation of one of Kafka’s earliest short stories about a young writer’s artistic obsession with the city’s unique characters. Just like Kafka’s prose pieces, the film gives life to the principal character’s innermost psyche and provides another means of understanding the great works of this existentialist icon.

Filmmaker Profile: Dr. Renée Vincent

Dr. Vincent is associate professor of theatre in the Department of Art and Theatre at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She holds an MFA in acting from the professional program at Southern Methodist University in Texas and a Ph.D. in directing from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. She is a member of the Actors’ Equity Association, the Screen Actors’ Guild and American Television and Radio Artists. Recently she was chosen as a member of the acting company of the International Film and Television Workshops in Rockport, ME.

Greg Raposa as Franz Kafka

Greg Raposa is a senior Theater major, graduating from UNC-Wilmington in May 2002. Greg’s stage work is highlighted by his roles as Pete Gint in Gint, Hero in The Rehearsal, and Adrian in Private Eyes.Greg is also a writer/player for Wilmington, North Carolina’s improv and sketch comedy troupe, The Other Side.

Chris Ryan as the Beggar

Chris is an active UNC-Wilmington Theater Major, who will be graduating in Spring 2002. He is also a member of the improv and sketch comedy troupe, The Other Side

Angie Peck as the Girl

Angie attends the University of North Carolina at Wilmington where she expects to graduate with Theater and Film Studies degrees in 2003. At UNC-Wilmington, she played Laura in The Glass Menagerie.

Jason Smith as the Supplicant
Jason, a recent graduate of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington’s Theater department has been enjoying his time away from the classroom by working on a variety of projects ranging from voice-over work on an animated series to independent film projects and commercial work.

Bryan Kupko - D.P., Asst. producer, Camera operator

Bryan Kupko began working full time at JDC & Co. Int., Inc. in 1997 after an internship in 1996. Bryan graduated from UNC-Wilmington, where he founded the UNCW Film Club.

Michael McGuire - D.P., Asst. producer

During his three years at UNC-Wilmington, Michael completed six projects while double majoring in theater and communications studies. After graduation he begin working for the city’s educational access channel.

John Roberts - Editor

Since attending the school of filmmaking at North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, NC, and serving as Post-production coordinator at Duke University Law, John has worked in both the American and Icelandic film industries. He lives in Wilmington.

Dr. Paula Kamenish - Copy editor

Dr. Kamenish is associate professor of English, teaching courses in European literature and culture. She holds a M.A. and Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from UNC- Chapel Hill. She is a Phi Beta Kappa scholar and this year’s recipient of UNC-Wilmington’s Distinguished Teaching Professorship and Board of Trustees Teaching Excellence awards.
