Heavier Than Air chronicles the personal journey of a transplanted Brazilian to discover the true story behind the controversial claim that Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, was actually the "first in flight."

Filmmaker Profile: Simone Keith

Keith is a native Brazilian who moved to North Carolina in 1995. She became curious about the slogan "First in Flight" displayed on North Carolina license plates, having grown up knowing Santos-Dumont as the father of aviation. After her family and friends visited her, she was encouraged to research and look into the "first in flight" issue. Learning about this year’s centennial of flight celebrations in North Carolina, she decided that this would be a great time to talk about aviation history and present a different perspective on the matter.
