The Claytoons and the Hand of DoomA peaceful community is threatened by an evil hand that smashes innocent citizens in this humorous clay animation short.  The community's clay citizens work together and do battle with the hand in an epic thumb war.

 

Filmmaker Profile:  Martha Garrett

Filmmaker Martha Garrett is an art teacher at St. Pius and has been making animated films with her 8th grade classes for seven years.  The Appalachian State University alumnus is a native of Greensboro, NC, and currently lives in the Gate City.

Local Angles

  • The Claytoons and the Hand of Doom was filmed in Greensboro, NC by Martha Garrett's 8th grade class at St. Pius X Catholic School.
  • Filmmaker Martha Garrett is an art teacher at St. Pius and has been making animated films with her 8th grade classes for about seven years. 
  • Garrett is a native of Greensboro, NC and currently lives in the Gate City.
  • Garrett attended Appalachian State University.  
  • Garrett and her husband Michael Frierson began creating clay animation in 1980 while he was a student at the University of Michigan in the film program.  He has written a book on the history of clay animation and currently teaches at UNC-Greensboro in the broadcast cinema department.  Frierson helps with the film projects at St. Pius by hosting lectures and sponsoring field trips to the television studio at UNC-Greensboro.
