The Idea Guy

The Idea GuyThe Idea Guy is a comedy short tackling the ups and downs of the creative process.  An unproductive writer starts to get great ideas, but each idea is accompanied by a strange headache.  The ideas get better and better, the headaches get worse and worse.  Where will it all end?  Will there be a twist?  Will his agent make any money?

Filmmaker Profile:  Bo Webb

Bo Webb lives with his family in Wilmington, NC.  He works on big, usually awful, movies for money, and spends his free time making short films, commercials, and music videos.  Webb also helps run the Cucalorus Film Festival and Tee Vee Show, a TV show.

Local Angles

  • Filmmaker Bo Webb was born and raised in Charlotte, NC and moved to Wilmington in 1992 to pursue filmmaking. 
  • The Idea Guy was produced, shot and edited in Wilmington. The film features Wilmington based actors, including Matt Malloy, who graduated from UNC-Greensboro and works in the film industry in Wilmington.
  • Eric Bachmann, who fronted the popular Chapel Hill band Archers of Loaf, performed music from The Idea Guy. Additionally, Bachman fronts the bands Crooked Fingers and Barry Black, whose music is also featured in the short.
  • Mark Gilmer, who shot The Idea Guy, also graduated from UNC-Greensboro and worked in Wilmington's film business until just recently. All of the other actors and crew are Wilmingtonians as well. 
  • Wilmington's historic Thalian Hall and the New Hanover County Courthouse served as locations for The Idea Guy.
  • The Idea Guy premiered at Wilmington's Cucalorus Film Festival, and also played at The Light Factory's "Carolina Filmmaker's Series" in Charlotte.
