Filmmaker Profile:  MICHAEL FRIERSON

Michael Frierson is an associate professor at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.  Frierson received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1986 and he teaches film production and theory in the Department of Broadcasting/Cinema and Theatre.  With his wife Martha Garrett, he has produced short clay animations for Children's Television Workshop and Nickelodeon.  His book Clay Animation:  American Highlights 1908 to the Present won the 1995 McLaren-Lambart Book Award for Animation Scholarship.  Currently, he is completing an hour-long film documentary on the life and work of New Orleans photographer Clarence John Laughlin.
