Aged hemlocks back the tall white house. A broad porch overlooks the Blue Ridge Mountains making way for sweeping pastures below. This is Connemara, the home where renowned poet and author Carl Sandburg spent the last 22 years of his life. Cultivating a rich family and literary life, he completed many works there including his autobiography and distilling his multi-volume Lincoln biography down to one volume. Come with us to this historical treasure in Flat Rock, NC.

Found wild only on the island of Madagascar, lemurs are a fascinating type of prosimian primate. Many Malagasy people believe lemurs, or "ghosts" in Latin, are similar to apparitions for their haunting eyes and nocturnal habits. Tucked away in Duke Forest is the world's largest sanctuary for rare and endangered prosimian primates. Come learn about the work of the Duke University Lemur Center and their efforts to educate, preserve and promote biodiversity for these truly unique animals.

And, as we got older...we learned the fascination of what these looms can do, and the beauty they create, and before long, it got in your blood and you just wanted to learn more and more...". Mike Harman honors his family's weaving tradition on the same loom his great-grandfather used.
Note: Until recently the family business operated as Buffalo Creek Weavers, but after this segment was produced, the business had to be closed down. The loom and other equipment wll be preserved in a museum setting in Pulaski Virginia.
