More Waterway Tales - Face Time - Makeshift Music - Featured Video Clip

Our State’s fourth season premiere kicks off with a new adventure down the Intracoastal Waterway hosted by Bland Simpson. Stops include Oriental—the “Sailing Capital of North Carolina,” historic Beaufort and Belhaven, the pristine beaches and estuaries of Hammocks Beach State Park, as well as the Alligator and Pungo rivers.

We’ll visit Oriental, the “Sailing Capital of North Carolina – a village of around 875 residents and over 2,700 boats!  We’ll stop in Beaufort and tour neighboring islands that formerly supported the area’s menhaden processing industry and are now prestine estuarine sanctuaries. The series premiere also explores the marshes and islands of Hammocks Beach State Park. A haven for migratory shore birds, the Park boasts some of the Atlantic coast’s most pristine waters and beaches. Then we wind our way down the Alligator and Pungo rivers and visit historic Belhaven in another intracoastal adventure!

Next, we’re in Winston Salem with North Carolina sculptor, Earline heath King.  Reluctantly joining a sculpting class at age 50 profoundly changed her life, setting her down a path to renown and keeps her inspiringly productive today at age 94. Come learn about the long trajectory art traced in her life, view pieces from her remarkable collection and watch a work in progress in her studio.

Everyday objects can produce surprising melodies. In High Point, the residents of the Presbyterian Home Band have crafted an ensemble with everything from juice bottles to mason trowels.  And the only requirement to join the band is a love of music and a sense of humor. The members, whose average age is 83, meet weekly and even take their show on the road performing throughout the state. Come hear this eclectic group and see why they’re such a hit!
