Superintendent, Guilford County Schools
Under
Terry Grier's leadership, student test scores, student attendance,
and community involvement have improved in some of the most
challenging districts in the country. Dr. Grier just completed
his first year as superintendent of the Guilford County school
district, Greensboro, North Carolina, which has a student
enrollment of 63,088. He has demonstrated a willingness to
work with others to develop strong linkages to continue the
process of school improvement.
Four
years prior to coming to Guilford County, Dr. Grier served
as superintendent of the Williamson County school district,
Franklin, Tennessee; student population there was 19,200.
During that time, he implemented an Educating for Results
management plan that resulted in significant district improvements.
Dr. Grier
is past president of the Horace Mann League of The United
States of America; has been named one of the country's Top
100 Educators by The Executive Educator; and has received
the Outstanding Alumni Award from East Carolina University.
He has published over fifty articles in numerous educational
journals and is a frequent speaker at national and state educational
conferences.
Dr. Grier
earned his doctor of education degree from Vanderbilt University.
He and his wife Nancy, who owns her own e-commerce business,
live in Greensboro.
