Texas Blues

Picture: close-up shot of a hand plucking the strings on a guitarA style with a more relaxed sound, Texas Blues began about the same time as Piedmont Blues, during the 1920s. Like Piedmont Blues, the main instrument is guitar, but it is used as an extension of vocals rather than just an accompaniment. The earliest version encompassed both singing and country blues but is less romantic than the other two forms. After World War II Texas Blues evolved into more of an electric style that featured single-string guitar over a background of horns.

Musicians:

  • T-Bone Walker
  • Bobby "Blue" Bland
  • Freddie King
  • Lightnin' Hopkins
