Time passes, and the people and places that define us become a fading dream unless we keep their memories alive. That is the spirit in which Carolina Preserves was conceived - first as a book of watercolor painting and personal reflections, then as UNC-TV's original television production.
Listen as artist William Mangum introduces us to his Aunt Kate, the inspiration for this project. Drop by as master boat builder James A. Rose remembers growing up on the Carolina coast, and gospel singer Shirley Caesar celebrates growing up in church. Novelist Lee Smith provides a glimpse of the making of a southern writer, and Jugtown potter Vernon Owens shares the life and memories of a country artisan. These and other distinguished North Carolinians blend to present a slice of life that simply can't be found anywhere else.
