UNC-TV Airs 2-Hour Special on Election Night
Covers All Statewide Races and Amendments
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK - UNC-TV and WRAL-TV join in a special partnership to provide live election night coverage. Election 2004: Election Night airs live on Tuesday, November 2 from 9 PM until 11 PM.
Hosted by Legislative Week in Review senior correspondent Tim Crowley and North Carolina Now correspondent Christine Rogers, the two-hour special will report on up-to-the-minute results from all major races, including the U.S. President, U.S. Senate, the governor, the council of state races and the congressional districts. In addition, the program will include the results of the five judicial races and the constitutional amendments. UNC-TV will also bring viewers results on all of the races for the North Carolina General Assembly and will be monitoring any shifts in the balance of power between political parties in the North Carolina House of Representatives and the North Carolina Senate.
North Carolina Now senior correspondent Mitchell Lewis will report live from the Raleigh Convention and Conference Center, where the Democratic Party will gather to eye election results. Claire Monroe will report live from the Brownstone in Raleigh to report on the Republican reaction to incoming election results. Providing analysis and commentary are Steve Greene, political scientist from North Carolina State University; Jarvis Hall, political scientist from North Carolina Central University; and Ferrel Guillory, lecturer for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Program on Southern Politics, Media and Public Life.
In addition to providing extensive coverage and commentary on all of the North Carolina races, at 10 PM UNC-TV will tune in momentarily to the NewsHour's coverage of national results and reaction.
UNC-TV and WRAL-TV, the CBS affiliate in Raleigh, are partnering to cover victory and concession speeches live on location. UNC-TV will switch to NewsHour reporting on the Presidential victory announcement and speeches.
