In 1971, the Whitney Museum of American Art's exhibit, "Abstract Design in American Quilts," sent shock waves through the modern art world and ignited a worldwide awareness of American quilts as designed objects. The Great American Quilt Revival chronicles the events which propelled quilting from folk craft to mainstream art. This eye-opening program contains many of today's notable quilters, historians and collectors sharing their personal stories, their art and their thoughts on the revival of quilt making. The documentary, narrated by Georgia Bonesteel of public television's Lap Quilting With Georgia Bonesteel, celebrates the many facets of quilting — from cultural quilts of the Amish and African American traditions, quilts mourning the 9/11 tragedies and the rise of the 'art quilt.'
