North Carolina Now Explores Health Issues
With a North Carolina Now Special on Health
As part of Healthy North Carolina Month in September, UNC-TV plans an hour-long special highlighting the best of their Healthwise initiative.
On Tuesday, September 14 at 9 PM, Healthwise: A North Carolina Now Special features several health topics covered by North Carolina Now's reporters since September 2003. The program covers a variety of health issues, from health conditions to treatments.
Not only does Healthwise explore some of the greatest health threats to North Carolinians, such as heart and chronic lung disease, stroke, and Alzheimer's Disease, but it also visits medical centers at East Carolina University to investigate cutting-edge robotic surgery methods and in Charlotte to delve into concierge medicine.
In addition, Michael Moseley, the director of the Department of Health and Human Services Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services, discusses new developments in the division. North Carolina Now reporters also examine how some mental health professionals are using the creative process of art therapy to treat people with manic depression and trauma.
The special marks UNC-TV's participation in September's Healthy North Carolina Month, proclaimed by Governor Easley in May to raise awareness about health issues and to encourage North Carolina citizens to engage in healthy activities. North Carolina Now draws upon its yearlong experience reporting on health issues to bring viewers stories on the top health concerns facing the state.
