Kick-Off The Summer With Programs & Activities To Help Kids Make Healthy Choices
HAVE A HAPPY, HEALTHY SUMMER
FROM UNC-TV, PBS KIDS & SESAME WORKSHOP MONDAY, JUNE 20

Monday, June 20, get active with a full day of kids shows celebrating healthy lifestyles! Then, through Labor Day, each Monday is a Happy Healthy Summer day featuring a different health-themed PBS KIDS show! Check out www.unctv.org/kids for more information!

This summer, UNC-TV extends its HealthWise health initiative through providing high-quality programming that entertains, educates and enriches the lives of North Carolina's children. UNC-TV, PBS KIDS and Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind Sesame Street, launches a summer-long multimedia campaign to inspire kids to make healthy choices early in life. Monday, June 20, the Happy Healthy Summer on PBS KIDS kicks off with a day full kids' shows with a healthy theme. Hosted by Sesame Street's Grover, the special day will feature content to inspire kids to build healthy habits.

Then each week throughout the summer, episodes from Sesame Street, Dragon Tales, Clifford the Big Red Dog and Barney, among others, will encourage kids to eat right, exercise, and take regular trips to the dentist and doctor. Grover and various clips from Sesame Street's 36th season featuring Joe Torre, Dominique Dawes and the Muppets will also offer healthy tips and advice for kids.

Additionally, pbskids.org will feature healthy recipes and games about hygiene, nutrition, movement and sports. For example, kids can help Cookie Monster and Grover choose a balanced variety of fruits and vegetables at the grocery story in "Color Me Hungry." Activities on pbskids.org/healthysummer will change weekly to coincide with the weekly episode themes.

On pbsparents.org, the "Expert Q&A" series will host Rosemarie Truglio, Ph.D., vice president of research and education, Sesame Workshop, for an online dialogue with parents. As part of the "Issues and Advice" section on pbsparents.org, Jane Park, senior curriculum specialist and health advisor to Sesame Workshop's Healthy Habits for Life curriculum, offers an insightful article on encouraging healthy eating habits, even among the pickiest eaters. And visit www.unctv.org/kids for information, games and special events designed especially for North Carolina's kids.

Member-supported UNC-TV's 11 stations comprise North Carolina's only statewide television network, made possible through a unique partnership of public investment and private support.
