UNC Board of Governors Appoints Britton and
Reappoints Five Others to UNC-TV Board of Trustees
The University of North Carolina Board of Governors has appointed a new member to the UNC-TV Board of Trustees, and reappointed five other members. Newly appointed is Linwood P. Britton, III, of Winston-Salem, a founding partner and managing director of The Orr Group, a North Carolina-based investment banking firm. Reappointed were: Phil Kirk of Raleigh, Gary York of Pilot Mountain, Janet Smith Moore of Asheville, Col. Don Porter of Fayetteville, and current board chair Margaret Harrison Suppler of Nags Head. All six appointments will run through June 30, 2010.
Mr. Britton has been with The Orr Group since 1995. Prior to helping to found the firm, he served as Vice President of Marketing with the Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corporation from 1993 to 1995, and was Vice President of Corporate Banking for First Union Corporation from 1985 to 1991.
UNC-TV Director and General Manager Tom Howe praised the appointments, saying "UNC-TV welcomes the appointment of Linwood Britton to the Board of Trustees. His extensive experience and detailed knowledge of North Carolina will be invaluable. In addition, we are delighted to have Margaret Suppler, Gary York, Phil Kirk, Janet Smith Moore, and Colonel Don Porter back for another term on our board. We certainly appreciate their past service and commitment to UNC-TV, and their knowledge, counsel, and encouragement will continue to be a wonderful source of guidance and support."
