UNC-TV Receives 2005 Charles Kuralt Award

The North Carolina Travel Industry Association (NCTIA) has presented UNC-TV with its annual Charles Kuralt Award for its contributions to tourism and travel in North Carolina.  The award presented during the group's annual award luncheon at the Millennium Hotel in Durham.

UNC-TV was recognized for its broad coverage of North Carolina's many landmarks, attractions, historic sites, and recreational activities on such programs as North Carolina Weekend, Our State, Exploring North Carolina, Carolina Outdoor Journal, and North Carolina Now. 

Malinda Whitson, UNC-TV's Director of Corporate and Foundation Support, spoke for UNC-TV, saying, "We're absolutely thrilled to receive this award from NCTIA.  UNC-TV is strongly committed to its coverage of North Carolina, which is why last year we produced 426.5 hours of original programming for and about our state."

This year marks the first time that an organization has received the award, which has been presented every year since 2000.  Previous recipients include Patricia Cheatham, Carol Timblin, Bernard Mann, Bill F. Hensley, and Hugh Morton, Sr.

Member-supported UNC-TV is North Carolina's statewide digital public television service.
