UNC-TV Presents…Duke University’s
“A Celebration of the Lives of John Hope and Aurelia Whittington Franklin”
President Bill Clinton Joins Other Featured Speakers to Honor the Late Historian & His Wife
On Thursday, June 11, at 11 AM, Duke University hosts A Celebration of the Lives of John Hope and Aurelia Whittington Franklin, honoring the late historian and his late wife on the anniversary of their marriage in June 11, 1940. UNC-TV presents this event live--from Duke Chapel--Thursday, June 11, at 11 AM, on UNC-NC, UNC-TV's digital channel devoted to all things North Carolina.
Featured speakers at the event include former U.S. President Bill Clinton, who, in 1997, appointed John Hope Franklin to chair a national task force on race, and attorney and civil rights leader Vernon Jordan, Franklin’s longtime friend. Duke trustee emerita Mary Duke Biddle Trent Semans and Duke President Richard H. Brodhead will also give remarks.
The Franklins’ son and daughter-in-law, John Whittington and Karen Roberts Franklin, arranged the celebration, which includes a host of other speakers and musical performances.
