Catch Another All-New Look at the Old North State!
THIS MONTH ON UNC-TV'S OUR STATE, DISMAL NEVER LOOKED SO GOOD!
Bland Simpson Shares Great Dismal Swamp Stories-Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 8 PM

February's edition of Our State, airing Wednesday, February 1, at 8 PM (repeating Thursday, February 2, at 9:30 PM), explores the Great Dismal Swamp Canal with Bland Simpson telling tales of the canal's vast and fascinating history; travels from Manteo to Bath on the Voyage of Elizabeth II; and celebrates the tercentenary of our state's first town on Tarheel Towns: Bath.

Great Dismal Swamp Canal-Through his writings, Simpson helps keep Eastern North Carolina's history and stories alive. He also directs UNC-Chapel Hill's Creative Writing program and is also an author, musician, playwright and Red Clay Ramblers' piano man. In this edition of Our State, award-winning videographer Mike Burke's stunning high-definition (where available) images are accompanied by Simpson's captivating swamp stories-including those of Edna Ferber, who found inspiration for her well-known novel of life on the Mississippi there; young poet Robert Frost, who contemplated suicide there; and Moses Grandy, who would buy his freedom three times over.

Voyage of Elizabeth II-Follow a group of sailing ambassadors who take the ship from Manteo to Bath. While in port, visitors to the ship learn about Colonial history and life aboard ship in those times.

Tarheel Towns: Bath-Explore North Carolina's oldest town as it celebrates its 300th birthday.
