UNC-TV Presents a High-Flying Premiere.
THE OPERA COMPANY OF NORTH CAROLINA
STRETCHES ITS WINGS WITH STARBIRD
Children's Opera Takes Off Sunday, April 10, at 6 PM
Sunday, April 10, at 6 PM, join UNC-TV for the long-awaited premiere of Starbird, an opera for children produced by The Opera Company of North Carolina. Designed by composer Henry Mollicone as a child's first opera, The Opera Company's first presentation of it in 1999 proved so popular that it demanded a return. Taped at Raleigh's Memorial Auditorium, UNC-TV captures Starbird in all its fine-feathered glory.
As a dog, cat and donkey lament how technology has rendered their roles obsolete, a spaceship lands with evil robots from another world. Befriending the caged Starbird and, with nothing left to lose, the three animals outwit Starbird's captors, freeing her and proving that every living thing has worth. The Opera Company of North Carolina uses this fantastic performance to introduce young people to opera, but children of all ages will enjoy this delightful story of friendship and purpose. Make plans to enjoy Starbird with your family, Sunday, April 10, at 6 PM.
Starbird is part of UNC-TV's ongoing commitment to producing programs for and about North Carolina. Member-supported UNC-TV's 11 stations comprise North Carolina's only statewide television network, made possible through a unique partnership of public investment and private support.
