The Woodwright’s Shop

28 Years of Green-Powered Craftsmanship on PBS
THE WOODWRIGHT’S SHOP WITH ROY UNDERHILL
New Season Premieres Saturday, September 27 (check local listings)!

Embarking on his 28th season on PBS, Roy Underhill notches another year of amazing longevity as host of The Woodwright’s Shop, one of the longest-running continuing productions on PBS and dubbed “the best how-to program since Julia Child started rattling pots and pans.” The all-new season premieres nationally Saturday, September 27, at 3 PM (check local listings), on PBS.

This season on The Woodwright’s Shop with Roy Underhill, our intrepid retro innovator of all things good and green goes in search of timeless ingenuity using the renewable resources of wood and will. North Carolina Governor Mike Easley leads the way with his own design for a walnut side table with lathe-turned legs. Next, Roy Underhill shows how make a dovetailed tool chest and a five-sided bookstand designed by Thomas Jefferson. The master cabinetmaker at Colonial Williamsburg drops in to guide our hand in classical carving, followed by lessons from a third generation Michigan lumberjack in country carving. From beautiful hand sawn veneers to recreating Viking axes, The Woodwright's Shop with Roy Underhill brings you the historic hand tool craftsmanship of the future!

This fall also brings the release of Roy’s exciting new book The Woodwright’s Guide: Working Wood with Wedge & Edge (University of North Carolina Press: www.uncpress.unc.edu/woodwright/index.html). Moreover, look for a fancy new Woodwright’s Shop with Roy Underhill website hosted at PBS (www.pbs.org/wws), coming along. In the meantime, Roy remains hard at woodwork putting finishing touches on his new school for woodcraft fans in Pittsboro, NC. The name of this new ivory wood tower: The Woodwright’s Shop.

So, sequester your carbon footprint in hand tool craftsmanship from The Woodwright's Shop with Roy Underhill—celebrating 28 years of green woodworking on PBS! Tune in this deep-rooted, long-running series every week and live well.
