6-9 Year Olds
6-9 year olds are soon-to-be-athletes who face pressures from mom, dad, coaches, and other kids. The following case studies are just for you, asking some of the important questions that kids your age often face. What would you do?
Case Studies:
Do You Know Jack?
Jack coaches the local little league baseball team. All of the players must be on time and at every practice in order to play. Diana is consistently late for practice, but is also the team’s best player. Coach Jack knows that without Diana hitting and catching for the team, they will lose many games. He also knows that she may be late because of her mom and dad’s work schedule, but feels its important to be fair to the other team members who do come to practice on time.
Discussion questions:
What should Jack do?
What are Jack’s options?
Is it unfair to Diana to keep her from playing?
Is it unfair to let Diana play when she broke the team rules?
How important is it to play by the rules of the whole team?
Would it matter if her parents’ work schedule weren’t to blame?
What if Diana was also late to games?
What would you do if you were coach Jack?
Is winning games more important than the practice?
