Corresponding with the Refuge series, UNC-TV presents resources exploring the beautiful National Wildlife Refuges in eastern North Carolina and other organizations supporting the state's magnificent flora and fauna.

Friends of Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge
The mission of the Friends of Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge is to help protect the natural treasures of the Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge by promoting informed public awareness of the refuge, raising funds and providing willing hands for various needed projects.

North Carolina Wildlife Federation
The North Carolina Wildlife Federation is one of North Carolina’s most effective organizations dedicated to the conservation of wildlife and wildlife habitats. With more than 60 years of experience, NCWF brings together the concerns of every North Carolinian who loves wildlife and wild places and the many ways to enjoy them.

North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission
Since its inception in 1947, the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission (WRC) has been dedicated to the wise-use, conservation, and management of the state's fish and wildlife resources. Policies are based on scientifically sound resource management, assessment and monitoring, applied research, and public input.

Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge
Established in 1934, this 50,180-acre refuge located nine miles east of Swan Quarter, NC, is home to habitat for endangered species such as bald eagles, peregrine falcons, and American alligators.

Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge
Located on the north end of Hatteras Island, a coastal barrier island and part of a chain of islands known as the Outer Banks, this 13 mile-long refuge provides nesting, resting, and wintering habitat for migratory birds, including the greater snow geese and other migratory waterfowl, shorebirds, wading birds, raptors, and neotropical migrants.

Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge
Located in Hyde, Tyrrell, and Washington Counties and headquartered in Columbia, NC, this 110,000+ acre wildlife refuge provides a habitat for many migratory waterfowl and enhances this  unique type of wetlands.

Teaming with Wildlife
Led by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission and the North Carolina Wildlife Federation, the North Carolina Teaming with Wildlife Coalition includes wildlife biologists, hunters & anglers, birdwatchers, hikers, nature-based businesses and other conservationists.
