The Arc of Wake County - Project VIGOR
The Arc of Wake County sponsors Project VIGOR, a program designed to identify exemplary day and socialization options with a leisure, wellness, and companionship focus to help meet the needs of older adults (50+ yrs. old) with developmental disabilities.  The primary goal of this program is to facilitate greater individual choice and participation in decisions that impact the person’s life, social relationships, and community involvement. 

The Arc of Wake County - RLSS (Retirement Leisure Supports and Services)
Retirement Services is a therapeutic community service designed to enhance the quality of life of older adults with developmental disabilities. The goals of Retirement Services are to avoid forced retirement and functional decline for older adults with developmental disabilities (DD), establish a retirement culture for persons with DD, expand the options for inclusive community participation, increase the community's capacity to serve older adults with DD, and maximize limited resources.

The Centralia Area Agency on Aging
This local organization hosts a walking program for Iredell, Rowan, Lincoln, Gaston, Mecklenburg, Union, Stanly, Cabarrus and Anson Counties— focusing on walking around the world.

Columbus Country Drops a Ton
Columbus County provides additional information and suggestions through their successful project – “Columbus County Drops A Ton."

Healthy Alamance
The activities of Healthy Alamance are designed to help improve access to, and increase awareness of, preventive health services, as well as eliminate health disparities among the disadvantaged. The program includes Alamance Walks and other health-priented programs in Alamance County including Being Healthy Counts to H.I.M. (Health Improvement Ministry).

Eat Smart, Move More, NC is a statewide movement that encourages healthy eating and physical activity wherever people live, learn, work, play and pray. The website offers a wealth of resources for health professionals, media representatives, consumers and anyone else looking for data, information or ideas about eating smart and moving more.

National Institute on Aging
This informative website provides feaures pages devoted to health information and publications about exercise and getting fit for life.

The North Carolina Division of Aging and Adults Services
This division's mission is to promote independence and enhance the dignity of North Carolina's older and disabled persons and their families through a community-based system of opportunities, services, benefits, and protections; to ready younger generations to enjoy their later years; and to help society and government plan and prepare for the changing demographics.

Senior Games is a holistic approach to body, mind and spirit staying fit, while enjoying the company of friends, family, spectators, and volunteers.

SilverStriders
This national award-winning walking club for people 50 years of age and better, offers a wealth of benefits. Each SilverStrider receives: log books for tracking progress, gifts and awards, and an annual report of accomplishments upon request. Most Local Games offer a SilverStriders Funwalk that allows participants to qualify for the State Finals Funwalk. For a free log book, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope with your request to:
