Community Initiatives

Guilford County Schools teamed up with community leaders to combine energy, personnel, resources, and funding that would enhance the county's educational environment, programs, and processes.

While the community designed and supported many initiatives, the following lists the major initiatives.

  • Cool to be Smart Celebration: Crown Automotive and Harris Teeter Neighborhood Markets teamed with Guilford County Schools to offer high achieving students the chance to win one of seven cars, college scholarships, or laptops.
  • GCS Teacher Supply Warehouse: Community partners, including the Guilford Education Alliance, the Welfare Reform Liaison Project, Leadership Greensboro and the Junior League of Greensboro, combined efforts to create a Teacher Supply Warehouse, where local businesses could donate unused items or supplies. The items range from overstock paper, pens with old logos, old address books, and video cases. Teachers from 50 Title 1 and Mission Possible Schools have access to the Warehouse on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 to 6 PM.

After learning more about these initiatives, you might recall events or programs that you have tried in your school community. Share what worked and what didn't at the Share Your Success Story page.
