Triad CEO Forum (2003)
Dominated by three cities—Greensboro, High Point and Winston-Salem—and three industries—textiles, furniture and tobacco, North Carolina’s Piedmont Triad Region holds almost 20 percent of both the state’s population and its labor force. Member Benefits for a special, live look at the area’s economic health on Triad CEO Forum, from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
With such profit maximizing moves as shipping manufacturing work over to Eastern Europe and Asian factories and off to NAFTA partners in Mexico and Canada, the area's traditional economic landscape is changing. As makers of durable and consumable goods find cheaper labor elsewhere, the focus shifts to technology and service-oriented companies. But can these high-tech and biotech corporations sustain this heretofore relatively healthy region?
Hosted by award-winning reporter and editor Ned Cline, Triad CEO Forum brings together area business and industry leaders to share their insights and discuss the challenges of sustaining a vital business economy during these difficult economic times. Panelists include:
Cline and the panel will also examine troubles in the area’s textile industry and what the future holds for economic growth—not only in the Triad, but throughout the state.
In his 30-year career as a journalist, Cline has chronicled the lives of many prominent North Carolinians for the Salisbury Post, the Charlotte Observer, and the Greensboro Daily News. He was managing and associate editor of the News & Record in Greensboro. The Greensboro resident is the author of Adding Value: The Joseph M. Bryan Story from Poverty to Philanthropy.
Triad CEO Forum (2003) is made possible by the Joseph M. Bryan Foundation of Greater Greensboro, Inc.
