Triad CEO Forum

Play Video: Low Speed - High Speed

Host, Shannon VickeryHow does the current economy affect Tar Heels? What does the fiscal future hold for North Carolina? Get an insider’s view of the state of business in the Triad and throughout the Tar Heel State.

Take an inside look at central North Carolina’s economic outlook during the latest Triad CEO Forum, from the Elon University campus, and only on UNC-TV. Hosted by UNC-TV's own Shannon Vickery, Triad CEO Forum examines the Triad's economy—including its workers, jobs and outlook.

Vickery moderates an enlightening discussion between leading experts from academic, business, financial and government institutions in the Triad. The panel discusses how trends in population, wages, technology, education and training impact the current economic climate in the Triad and, in turn, how it affects the rest of our state.

In its "State of the North Carolina Workforce: An Assessment of the State’s Labor Force Demand and Supply 2007 - 2017," the North Carolina Commission on Workforce Development identified eight trends:

  • Many of North Carolina’s traditional manufacturing industries continue to shed jobs as part of an on-going economic transition.
  • North Carolina’s traditional “middle jobs”—those that paid a family-sustaining wage and required minimal formal education or training—are disappearing as part of this transition.
  • New job creation is concentrating in certain fast-growing metropolitan areas.
  • Many areas of North Carolina are not prospering from the economic transformation.
  • The future prosperity of all North Carolinians depends on achieving higher educational attainment levels for all citizens.
  • Impending baby-boom retirements will exacerbate an emerging skills gap among experienced, skilled workers.
  • High-skill in-migrants will help fill part, but not all, of this skills gap.
  • Low-skill in-migrants present both opportunities and challenges in meeting the state’s workforce needs.

These issues and more are up for exploration during the Triad CEO Forum. View the video above to learn how you can profit from this stellar panel’s years of combined expertise in the areas of business, technology, education and finance. Hear financial forecasts, industry insights and policy points from North Carolina A&T State University Chancellor Stanley Battle, New Breed CEO and Chairman of the Board Louis DeJoy, Guilford County State Senator Kay Hagan, BB&T Chief Operating Officer Kelly King, and Elon University President Leo Lambert.
