When is the next election in North Carolina? 

North Carolina will hold its statewide primary election on March 5, 2024. The 2024 primary election includes the presidential preference primary.

What is the deadline to register to vote in North Carolina? 

In North Carolina, voters must register at least 25 days before a regular election. The deadline to register to vote in the primary election was February 9, 2024.

Can I register to vote during early voting?

Eligible voters may register to vote during early voting in person at a polling place in their county. Same-day registration is not available for most voters on Election Day.

How do I register to vote in North Carolina? 

You can register to vote by mail-in application and through voter registration agencies, like the DMV. If you miss the voter registration deadline, you may register at the polls during early voting periods

Do I need an id to vote in North Carolina? 

In North Carolina, voters will be asked for photo identification to vote at the polls and for voting by mail. There are many acceptable types of photo ids, and the N.C. Department of Motor Vehicles is offering “no fee” id cards.

How do I vote early?  

In-person early voting for the March 5, 2024 statewide primary election begins Thursday, February 15, 2024 and ends March 2, 2024 at 3 PM.  

In North Carolina, voters may vote early in-person at any early voting site in their county.

Can I vote by absentee ballot in North Carolina? 

The deadline to request an absentee ballot in North Carolina is February 27, 24 at 5 PM. Absentee ballots must be returned by 7:30 PM on March 5, 2024.

DID YOU KNOW?

Voters who will be 18 on or before Election Day may vote in that election’s primary, even if they are only 17 years old during the primary, as long as they preregister to vote. 16- and 17-year-olds may preregister to vote if they will be 18 years of age on or before Election Day.
