Permanent Positions:

Executive Director & General Manager
The UNC-TV Executive Director/General Manager position is responsible for the overall vision, leadership, strategic direction, and success of UNC-TV, which transmits four full-time digital program channels to all 100 counties in North Carolina. The person in the role oversees a budget of approximately $30 million and over 200 permanent, temporary, and contract employees statewide. They would also work to ensure that the station remains in compliance with any rules and/or regulations that govern public broadcasting entities.

UNC-TV, Public Media North Carolina has chosen Livingston Associates to serve as the search consultant and named an 18-member committee tasked with locating a candidate for the position of executive director and general manager of UNC-TV. More information on the search is available here.


Financial Reporting Systems Manager
UNC-TV, Public Media North Carolina, is seeking a detail-oriented Financial Reporting Systems Manager to oversee the financial systems and reporting functions for UNC-TV. This includes managing monthly expenditure reporting, budget administration with managers ($28 Million budget), systems design, testing and implementation, PeopleSoft and UNC Systems liaison, ad hoc reporting and special projects. These core functions are vital to ensuring UNC-TV’s annual budget is handled in an efficient, accurate and compliant manner. This position will consistently serve as the technical resource for staff and management and must have the ability to independently identify problems and changing requirements, as well as the capability to research, analyze, train, and ensure implementation of new reporting methodologies. This position reports to the Director of Finance & Administration.

Minimum requirements include a bachelor’s degree in accounting, banking, finance, business administration, economics, or related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.


Web and Online Media Manager
UNC-TV, Public Media North Carolina, invites applications for the position of Web and Online Media Manager to lead the production, management and reporting for UNC-TV’s web presence including, but not limited to, website, e-newsletters, lobby monitors and web content editing. The individual in this role will serve as the principal overseer of the UNC-TV web presence, including leading the development of design layout and/or build of all web pages, content development across site, ongoing maintenance, requests for digital media creation including new webpage development and SEO. This individual will also manage the strategy, content creation, design and development of regular UNC-TV content emails. This will include working with departments across the organization to manage and execute the web and digital presence of their content.

This role requires a detail-oriented digital content editor with strong writing/editing and graphic design skills to help create, edit and post both written and visual content for organization websites, digital platforms and other media. Candidates need experience writing for a variety of media (using AP style) and using Adobe Creative Suite. This position must be able to execute clean, contemporary work incorporating smart, efficient writing and impeccable principles of type and design to meet designated KPI goals. This position will also work with existing assets and must adhere to style guides where applicable, within a specified content creation work flow.

Minimum requirements include a master’s degree and 2-4 years of experience, or a bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

UNC-TV has a robust internship program offering fall, spring, or summer unpaid/for credit learning opportunities for students or recent grads interested in public media. Areas of interest include marketing and communications, business administration, fundraising, social media, production, post production, editing and much more.

Summer 2019 Internships:

Archival Content
UNC-TV, Public Media North Carolina, is seeking Archival Content Interns to inventory and annotate UNC-TV’s historic archival moving image collection – including documentary, interview, travel, and performing arts media from over 60 years of Public Media programming. Duties consist primarily of simple editing of A/V materials through the Dalet MAM (Media Asset Management System), entering full searchable metadata including content description, and monitoring audio and video to ensure the highest quality control. Learn about North Carolina in all its facets while performing an important and valuable role at UNC-TV/Public Media.

Graphic Design
UNC-TV’s Creative Services team is seeking a detail-oriented graphic design intern with strong communication skills and experience in print and web design. This role will work with the Creative Services team to develop on brand and style-consistent materials that support UNC-TV Public Media North Carolina in areas such as events, content, development, brand management and web. Responsibilities may include creating web graphics, event flyers, signage and web posts. Must be proficient in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. Animation and editorial experience preferred.

Kids & Education Engagement
The Kids & Education team is seeking an Engagement Intern who will support their statewide work related to a variety of community initiatives and events serving youth ages birth – 12th grade. Duties include but are not limited to: organizing information, and preparing and coordinating deliverables as well as staging for meetings, events, productions and interactive learning experiences throughout the state. In addition, providing assistance with data collection, analysis and reporting and support with grant funded activities and initiatives. Must be able to work collaboratively with other members of the Kids & Education team on a variety of projects and initiatives.

Kids & Education Production
The Kids & Education team is seeking a Production Intern who will support production of content for multiplatform distribution including Rootle, UNC-TV’s kids brand and 24/7 PBS Kids Channel, YouTube channel, website and social networks. Duties include but are not limited to: pre-production research, script writing, editing, studio and field production and post-production video editing. Must have a working knowledge of television/film production (i.e. editing software, studio production skills and elements) and be able to work collaboratively with other members of the Kids & Education team on a variety of projects and initiatives.

Major and Planned Gifts
The Major and Planned Gifts division is seeking an organized, thoughtful, digitally savvy, data analytics mind to join our team this fall or spring. This role works with Major and Planned Gift Officers and program manager, and it requires abilities in multiple areas, including marketing analysis, organization, presentation and report creation, and relationship management. Duties include but are not limited to: tracking and reporting on departmental projects, compiling reports and presentations, serving as a go to resource for Major and Planned Gift fundraising. Must be proficient in Microsoft office tools such as Excel.

Media Relations/Publicity
UNC-TV’s Marketing Communications team is seeking a Media Relations/Publicity intern to assist in the efforts to build awareness for UNC-TV initiatives with key audiences through strategic media partnerships and outreach. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to researching media outlets and developing media distribution lists, organizing press clippings and reporting on efforts to key stakeholders, assisting in the creation of media alerts and press releases, facilitating the distribution of publicity materials such as clips and photography selects to press, fostering relationships with media outlets Marketing Communications deals with regularly, and liaise and work collaboratively across departments within UNC-TV. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills along with experience writing or editing for a variety of media (with AP Style familiarity). Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.

Production Partnerships and Business Development
This intern will work with the Director of Production Partnerships and Business Development, The Director of Grants, the contracts administrator and UNC-TV's administrative and financial staff to learn the business side of original content production. The intern will assist the Director of Production Partnerships and Business Development in doing market research on potential production partners and revenue opportunities for UNC-TV's production services. There will also be the opportunity to work with the Director of Grants to investigate the foundation and corporate grant landscape, draft proposals, and learn about the granting landscape. This intern will assist the contract administrator with organizing the content department's paper contract archives and other business reporting needs. This intern will job shadow members of UNC-TV's finance and administrative unit to understand the overall business workflow of UNC-TV. This intern will also be provided the opportunity to assist with some studio and field production work in order to see how UNC-TV's business practices translate into overall successful productions.

Technical Writer
The Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Project team is in need of an aspiring technical writer to help the buildout of the new CRM. The ideal candidate would be majoring in something related to technical writing or be working toward a technical degree. Experience working with various documentation software is a plus. Well-developed writing skills are a must. The duties include, but are not limited to: identifying the correct software for document creation and maintenance; defining and implementing a set of processes around document creation, collaboration and publication; gaining enough understanding of the CRM software functionality to be able to write concise and useful user manuals and FAQs; and helping the CRM team with various tasks unrelated to documentation but useful to the project on an as-needed basis.
